Town of Sweden Democratic Committee

Neighbors Working with Neighbors

Who We Are

We are your neighbors promoting Democratic ideals and candidates in the Town and beyond. We learn about issues, make ourselves heard, interview potential candidates and work to get candidates elected. We get to know our community and make a difference.

Our Mission

We build a stronger community by working for a fair and bright future for everyone in the Town of Sweden and County of Monroe. Count on us to roll up our sleeves, empower you, and to organize to build a better community.

Local Politics Matters

How Does it Matter?

Local politics affects all of us day to day. Sidewalks, water, traffic, information are all Town issues. The Town provides parks and recreation and supports the library. Zoning, building permits, and business development are controlled by the Town

Speeding, parking, small claims, and some criminal cases are heard by the Town Justices.

The county runs the even more of the things that touch our lives including the Sheriff, the Airport, the Zoo, Social Services, birth, marriage, and death records.

Taxes are levied at all levels.

Voting your values makes a difference; shared perspectives open eyes. The possibility for change is greater because you choose to vote and be counted. That is why the Sweden Democratic Committee participates in elections every year and promotes civic engagement every day of every year.

Why become involved?

Some among us are aiming for higher office, but the vast majority of local candidates deeply believe that they can improve our quality of life and that citizens should have a choice.

Elections change communities in ways that go far beyond the vote count. Elections force conversations about issues that those in power might want to ignore or perhaps don’t even know about. Options can be proposed and debated that might never see the light of day without an opponent asking questions. Once an issue is talked about the possibility exists of a new approach, and that can be revolutionary.

Elections also change candidates and their supporters. Going door-to-door forces candidates to go outside their bubble or echo chamber of like-thinking neighbors. There is honesty at front doors. Candidates learn about the people in their district, and win or lose, their life is enriched with stories shared.
